The argument rages on! Which totem will the pack follow?

12 comments:

  1. " Forgive me for getting so hot headed, I'm simply overly passionate regarding the issue. I wont let it happen again. Enough of that however as I would like to continue the discussion." Liam leans back against a tree in the lunar grove carefully regarding each of you in turn. " Our pack, the Sons of the Apocalypse, is not, as some would call a normal one... most Garou as I understand it, come upon their first change at adolescence or sometime soon there after. We didn't. No, there is a reason we are called the Sons of the Apocalypse... our first change was truly and surely a gift from Gaia... it was us friends, US! We were there and the beginning of the end of all things, we witnessed the opening of the eye of Anthelios we were there when the Urge Wyrm of Fear came into our world...and Gaia herself sent one of her champions to meet him...Gaia herself gave us the ability to change and become what we were meant to be.." Liam takes a long breath as his words begin to falter.
"Friends listen to me, I know you think me stubborn and perhaps I am, but our fate is not something common, our fate is tied to Gaia now and she has summoned our animal souls for a purpose, she has made us these weapons for a reason!!"
" I feel very strongly that if our fate is to be tied to who we are then we need to have a goal that matches what Gaia wishes us to be! I dont speak of our purpose as a pack now I speak of something much greater... winning this un-winnable war... and in order to do that I believe we need to help unite the Garou nation, we need to search out what allies we can against the wyrm.

Let others step up and pledge themselves to die at the wyrms hands in service to their totems of war... let others plan and plot at the behest of their totems of cunning hoping one day to be honored as "clever"...WE will be the ones to unite our shattered tribal brothers, WE will be the ones that bring aid to our Garou brothers when it is needed, we can be the ones to turn the tide of the war...but we cant do it if we focus upon selfish desires."

" Though I have done so in the past I tell you now that I am done with selfishness, done with putting myself before US as a whole, and I am done trying to manipulate my brothers. I still believe whole heartedly that Grandfather Thunder is the spirit with which we can attempt to unite this nation but my reasons are different than you may think. My goal, our goal, will always be to win this war...we cant do that as we are...we need strong leaders to rally the Garou to one banner, we need to show that the old ways are done. That we cannot win against the Wyrm while onto sacred traditions that blindfold us to the truth. what better way to take this first step than to take Thunder as our totem? Proclaiming to all the Garou nation that despite the taboo surrounding his name and my tribe as a whole, a group of Garou, FATED to be a turning point in this war, PROPHESIZED for greater than most, are still willing to accept his aid for the betterment of Gaia...to help us win?"
Liam takes another breath, and considers what he has said.
" I am not saying the Thunder is the only option...but I believe that we need to take drastic steps for our future to include anything but death...the totem taken by a pack as tied to fate as ours cannot be just another...we need one with a name, one that represents something Garou can get behind...respect. My vote is for Thunder as I think his choosing would have the greatest impact on our destiny, but I am prepared to accept the other side of that coin and claim Falcon to be my second choice for his name is on equal footing, even if he is not as strong. These are my choices and these are my reasons...I hope and pray that you will listen...else I fear that we will all fall in the coming Apocalypse..." With those words Liam takes his leave of the group, until they can come to a decision amongst themselves.

  2. As Liam turns to leave, Conall moves forward and says, “Listen Liam, I understand your point, and agree with most of what you said – except for your conclusions.” He pauses for a moment to collect his thoughts and continued. “Earlier you argued we needed to fight smarter, not harder – or words to that effect. Your point being that a war totem was not a good idea, and proposed Grandfather Thunder. I suggested Weasel as our totem, who well represents the ideas of war and cunning. Now you are implying both war and cunning are bad ideas. They are either mindlessly rushing into battle with a death wish or vainly trying to convince others how smart they are. You again lift Grandfather Thunder as the best answer, that being a totem of respect."

Conall pauses again, reflecting on how to phrase his next statement. "I don't mean to offend you, but I don’t like or agree with your suggestion that we need to choose a totem of respect. It seems like what you really want is a totem that YOU view as respected, not necessarily a totem of respect. Frankly to me that viewpoint seems somewhat disrespectful to a majority of all totems. Still, everyone needs to have a say in this, since it affects us all. I’m going to be honest here and say I think neither Grandfather Thunder nor Falcon represents or reflects our pack well. Not that there is anything wrong with them, I just don’t think they are right for us. So let me throw out some more names for continued discussion. They are: Weasel, Thunderbird, Katanka-Sonnak (Hyperion), Zarok, the Crowned Ruler, Incarna of Jupiter."

  3. Weasel
    Background Cost: 7
Some homids are surprised to learn Weasel is a totem of War, expecting her to be a Totem of Cunning, instead. And whilst Weasel is cunning indeed, she is no mere trickster, but a sneaky, dexterous and relentless warrior. Like Flea, Weasel favors quick strikes and surprise above sheer muscle. Unlike Flea, she will never back down until a foe is destroyed. This attitude has made her popular among many young Shadow Lord packs.
Traits: Weasel gives one point of Dexterity and an additional die to Dodge pools to each of her children, and they all gain an extra die of damage on bite attacks as well.
Ban: Weasel packs must never show fear.

    Thunderbird
    Background Cost: 6
Thunderbird is one of the greatest of totems, a powerful spirit whose battles against wicked creatures are legendary. Some say that Thunderbird has no real body – that he is a being of thundercloud with sharp claws and lightning flashing from where his eyes would be.
Traits: Thunderbird’s children each gain +1 Intimidation and +1 Survival. They can call on an extra five Willpower points per story and often find allies among the Wendigo. In desperate times, Thunderbird might strike a pack’s foes with lightning – but he dislikes having to intercede on his children’s behalf in this fashion, and will always demand a quest or boon as repayment.
Ban: Thunderbird detests cowardice, and will not tolerate packs that flee from encounters where they aren’t clearly overmatched.

  4. Katanka-Sonnak, The Wind Rider, Incarna of the Sun
    Background Cost: 10
    Fifth Lunar Month
    Tribe: Wendigo
    Auspice: Ahroun
    Aetherial Realm: Sun
    Element: Fire
    Colors: Yellow
Other Names: Helios (Black Furies), Merodach (Children of Gaia), Lugh (Fianna), Freyr (Get of Fenris), Sol (Glass Walkers), Dazhbog (Shadow Lords), Ra (Silent Striders), Mir-Susne-Khum (Silver Fangs), Pautiwa (Uktena), Katanka-Sonnak (Wendigo), Hyperion (Mages)
    Quality: Warmth
    Tarot Card: Strength
    Vices: Gluttony
    Virtues: Energy, vigor
    Zodiac Correspondence: Leo
As with Gaia/Eshtarra and Luna/Sokhta, so goes Helios/Katanka-Sonnak. Also called Hyperion, he is known as the Wind Rider because of his association with solar winds, he is the energy of renewal and rebirth. Ahroun get Katanka-Sonnak’s favor, and those born under his sign are known for their boundless energy in combat and dramatic manner. His Ragabash have a directness to them that’s unusual for their Auspice. Philodox use fiery speeches and make judgments with solid conviction, while Galliards tell their stories and sing their songs with intense passion and drama. Katanka-Sonnak Theurges prefer vibrant spirits of fire and wind and other intense qualities.
It may seem odd that the Incarna of the Sun favors the icy Wendigo, but he sees past the coldness of their homelands and their cannibal totem to the fiery rage in the hearts. Their brashness and angry energy makes them akin to him.
Hyperion only rarely becomes a Totem of a pack, and only if he is very impressed with the pack’s mettle and foresight. Mokole and Corax will respect Katanka-Sonnak’s children. (Each pack member receives the Gift: Kiss of Helios. The pack may call upon 5 Willpower points per story; Must protect other shapeshifters, especially Corax and Mokole).

Zarok, the Crowned Ruler, Incarna of Jupiter
    Background Cost: 9
    Ninth Lunar Month
    Tribe: Silver Fangs
    Auspice: Philodox
    Aetherial Realm: Jupiter
    Element: Air
    Colors: Red, white, yellow
Other Names: Zeus (Black Furies), El (Children of Gaia), Dagda (Fianna), Odin (Get of Fenris), Jupiter (Glass Walkers), Isten (Shadow Lords), Amon (Silent Striders), Perun (Silver Fangs), Ahsonnutli (Uktena), Gitche Manitou (Wendigo), Divaa
    Quality: Authority
    Tarot Card: The Emperor
    Vices: Pride
    Virtues: Leadership
    Zodiac Correspondence: Sagittarius
King of the planets, Jupiter could be said to "rule" over the Solar System. It’s Incarna, Zarok, certainly gives the ideal credence. His colors are those of his planet. Zarok represents leadership at it’s best, not tyranny.
Philodox, with their abilities of guidance and leadership, earn his favor, and those under his patronage make their judgments with confidence. Zarok’s Ahroun are battle-leaders and strategists, while his Theurges use their powers to create a sense of unity and purpose. Zarok Galliards tell stories of great heroes and leaders and Zarok Ragabash have a shameless audacity to their pranks.
The Silver Fangs, with their natural leadership skills and charisma, gain Zarok’s favor, and always have.
A pack must be well-respected to be worthy of Zarok as a Totem, and having a Silver Fang with them is a help. (Each pack member gains a dot of Pure Breed and an extra Willpower point for resisting domination, mind control and intimidation. The pack as a whole gains +4 dice to Leadership and +2 to Intimidation, and may draw on an extra five Willpower points per story; Zarok’s Children must not dishonor themselves. If an action causes the pack to lose Honor renown, he will leave them.

  5. "Hold on there, Liam, your words speak true, and you need not leave. We will make this decision as a pack and a whole. Our judge's opinions have much leverage here" Jordan says, clutching one of his open wounds dealt by the human's silver bullets. He looks to each of his packmates with a serious, and determined look. "Our conversations earlier have opened my eyes as well to the difficult decision that we must make, and that a compromise of sorts is what is needed here." Jordan shakily stands up from his resting position, up against a tree in the lunar grove. He tenses up, trying his absolute best to maintain his composure, despite the screaming pain. "This is what I propose". He bends over, and pushes the needles on the ground over, so that the bare earth in a large area looks like a clean state. Jordan then, goes and finds some dead branches that are laying about in the grove, and brings them close to the the cleaned out area.
He starts breaking the branches into small piles of sticks and says "I am not opposed to the thought of having a totem of respect. Falcon, the totem of my tribe is one as well. There are things that I have learned from Silver Jaws, regarding the emmisary of Helios, Luna's other side, and his brood Eagle that I think are worth noting.I believe first that The strength that I think will help accomplish our daunting task is the capability to unite the Garou, remove the taboo's, and bring us together as a whole. Not through fear or intimidation, but to be about it instead of talking about it. Out with the old concept of separatism. We have already made allies with a neighboring sept, but why stop there? I can assure you that I do not plan to go at this alone. I need all of you. We as a pack, need the rest of the nation to help us bring down Foebok. And what better way to do this than to have assurance to other septs, and caerns that we will be held responsible for our mistakes. My way is to try and create unity. Together we are strong. And I promise, that if Falcon is chosen, there will be much more than respect, and the extremely strong ability to lead others that will be given as a boon. This said, remember that Foebok does not only fight with the manipulation of humans, and other minions, but also tries to kill us in a very real
way, and that a totem of war is not a terrible idea, especially when it comes to keeping ourselves alive in the midst of battle that is sure to come" Jordan says clutching his non-existant ear but for a second. "Admittedly, I will not want to choose a totem of lesser station, but if that is what it takes, then I will take any totem that is best for our pack as a whole."

"There are five totems that we have been going back and forth about for some time now. All of them are great choices for our pack. This is what I propose" Jordan hands out small piles of sticks to each of his packmates. "We will vote. We all must vote". He walks to the cleared area of earth, and draws five pictures in the dirt. One of Weasel, one of Owl, one of Eagle, one of Grandfather Thunder, and one of Falcon. "We will rank our choices from most favorite to least. We must keep this fair, you must vote for all, even your least favorite. For your most favorite, put five sticks down in their image, for your second choice, put four, and so on" Jordan sets his sticks down in the shapes. 5 Falcoln, 4 Eagle, 3 Grandfather Thunder, 2 Weasel, 1 Owl. "This way, all of us get a say" glancing at Joseph, "and all of the totems that we are considering, are recognised as possible fits for the Sons of the Apocolypse. We can do this. I will not force anyone's will. This is my compromise for progress."

  7. -Anton speaks up-

The two of you *he indicates Liam and Jordan* are just disgusting. Just arguing for totems from your own tribes to raise your rank in the pack. Liam, you are constantly changing your position to discredit other totems. Jordan nobody has argued for falcon or eagle except for you. Besides I see no reason a spirit of respect would accept this pack as its children.

Solving this diplomatically isn't going to work. As alpha, Liam, your choice of totem is what we should strive for. I therefore challenge you for the right to pick this pack's totem.

  8. Taken aback at the sudden outburst from Anton Liam is at a loss for words...but only for a moment. Liam grinds his foot down into the pictures drawn on the ground with force, and speaks clearly.
" I agree with you Anton, at first I was acting selfishly because of my ties to the shadowlords... but as I said I am done with selfishness, and I have stated before now that your knowledge and experience with the spirit realm should take presidence here...you have already said yourself that Grandfather Thunder would be a good fit for the Sons and it was those words that lead me to believe my claim was right...have you changed your mind? Does Thunder have no worth for us? Perhaps it no longer matters, if this challenge for rights is what you believe to be correct who am I to contest you...Is this challenge what you really want? You wont except Jordans solution?" Liam awaits Antons reply

  9. Dear Gaia. Is that how you think of spirits? What worth does grandfather thunder bring us?

You have this completely backwards. We aren't deciding on what totem deserves us and what they are worth. We are seeking a GOD to serve. To uphold its ideals. They in turn help us get closer to Gaia and if we serve them well they might give us blessings, but we Will Not demand them.

You have a perverted view on what the spirits are. Your lack of respect is disturbing.

You look down on the prey totems as if they aren't worthy of you. When you aren't worthy of them.

*addressing everybody now* consider this a warning. I will not tolerate speaking of spirits as if they are mere tools for us to use. Even when we dominate a spirit it we will be treated with the respect Gaia expect us to give her children.

    * speaking again to Liam* If you will not back down then my challenge still stands. I will give you time consider your answer ( and others time to respond. Also just to be clear this is a challenge to who picks the totem, not on who is alpha. Just wanted to make that clear)

*Anton sits against a tree and performs the the rite breath of Gaia quietly to himself*

  10. Liam considers these words, and after a moment looks down at his hands obviously disturbed. With some difficulty and a steadying breath he clenches his fists and looks to Anton.
" I am sorry friend, I did not realize. I will think on how to make amends to the spirits for my disrespect, I may have to come to you for help. *Liam looks to the others and continues* Anton is right, I am unfit to help you in choosing our totem, though I want you to know I trust fully in all of you to find one to whom WE can prove to be worthy. I withdraw myself from this decision, as my faults in the matter are clear.
If it matters at any point my vote will reside with Anton."
Liam begins to walk away and then turns regarding Anton with a smile.
" Thank you for hammer through my ego Anton, I will be a better Garou because of you."
With those final words Liam retreats into the lunar grove to be alone, and begin to think of a way to make his disrespect right.

  12. Jordan’s face turns from flush with anger." Ah, you’ve finally spoken up. I’ve been waiting for your expert knowledge on things of the spirit world, and such. Lest be you know, we’ve been debating our ignorance because your complete lack of communication. While we make ourselves look like fools, you sit and wait, and at the most opportune time, decide to FUCK EVERYTHING UP!!! If it was your responsibility in the first place, which it is, since Liam is a FUCKING JOKE when it comes to spirits, you didn’t have to ask, or challenge him. Hell, your pathetic ass challenge is backed by the knowledge he won’t put up a fight. Just take it, he doesn’t want the responsibility, he doesn’t want to be held responsible for that! You can’t be that ignorant. You can’t be that fucking retarded, can you? And you say nothing of our ideas, of our beliefs, or acknowledge anything that we mentioned, save for our stupidity. You insult me with a forced ignorance from your own hand!"

Jordan rushes up to the Get, transformed into his war form. "If you have a problem with me we, need to settle it NOW. I’m tired of you being difficult, and your withholding of information. Either start doing your job, and start being the packmate we need, or find someone else who can put up with your childish SHIT." Jordan activates his fleece, and stands ready.
